KOH PHANGAN

Our stunning location is The Sanctuary Thailand on the beautiful Haad Tien beach of Koh Phangan island. This island is fast becoming a “Yoga Mecca” of South East Asia and the healing sands of these secluded bays offers the perfect nest for this deep work.

Haad Tien is not connected by road and guests will arrive by taxi boat. With no traffic, wandering barefoot between these beaches, this environment invites us to slow down, let go and chill out. Breaks are spent lazing in the sunshine before calm turquoise waters, it literally feels like paradise.

GETTING TO THE SANCTUARY

Flying to Ko Samui (USM)

The closest airport to Koh Phangan is Koh Samui Airport (USM).

THE THONG NAI PAN SUPPLY BOAT
The fastest way to The Sanctuary on Haad Tien is to take the Thong Nai Pan Supply Boat from the beach in front of Hotel Anjali which is near to the Maenam Chinese Temple in Mae Nam Beach. This boat leaves once daily at 11:45am and you may buy your ticket on the boat itself, or from any of the street vendors nearby. The price is 300 baht to Haad Tien.
The Thong Nai Pan Supply Boat arrives directly into Haad Tien beach in front of The Sanctuary at 1:30pm.
PLEASE NOTE: The Thong Nai Pan Supply Boat DOES NOT LEAVE FROM MAENAM PIER. It leaves from the beach in front of Hotel Anjali. You can take the shared taxi from the Samui Airport and just tell your driver you are going to Hotel Anjali. Do not tell them you are taking a ferry as most drivers do not know about this very convenient little boat and will take you to a different pier.

THE HAAD RIN QUEEN FERRY
If your flight does not arrive in time to catch the Thong Nai Pan Boat, you should take the Shared Taxi from the airport to Big Buddha Pier where you will take The Haad Rin Queen which will take you to Haad Rin Beach.

As you get off the boat in Haad Rin, people with taxi boat signs will ask you where you are going and you tell them you are coming to The Sanctuary. The price for these long-tail boats is usually 300 baht per person for a shared boat, but they may ask for more if you are alone, depending on the time of day. Don’t pay more than 600 baht to take the boat alone. It is a 10 minute ride and will drop you in front of The Sanctuary.

PRIVATE SPEED BOAT
Your third option from Koh Samui is to arrange a private speed boat direct from Koh Samui to Haad Tien. To arrange a private boat please contact The Sanctuary

Flying to Surat Thani

FROM SURAT THANI

The second closest airport to Koh Phangan is Surat Thani Airport, which may be accessed by domestic flights within Thailand.

To be honest, the journey from Koh Samui is far easier to make than the journey from Surat Thani. Surat Thani is not really a great place to spend a night if you need a lay over, and the journey from Surat Thani airport to Haad Tien involves a bus, ferry, taxi and longtail boat which may feel totally exhausting on the end of your international flight. We recommend that you spend the extra money to fly into Koh Samui, but just in case you take this option, here are your instructions…

Bus and Ferry

BUS & FERRY TO THONG SALA, KOH PHANGAN
Surat Thani is located on the Thai mainland, about a 1.5hour bus ride away from the Donsak Pier. When you get off your flight, you can buy a combined bus & ferry ticket to Koh Phangan in the airport. Busses leave for the ferry after each flight, so collect your baggage and buy a ticket straight away.
Try to take one of the high speed catamarans such as the Lomprayah Ferry which bring you in to Thong Sala Pier on Koh Phangan in under 2 hours. If you buy a ticket for the large Raja Ferry, this will take you more than 4 hours to arrive into Thong Sala Pier on Koh Phangan.

TAXI FROM THONG SALA TO HAAD RIN BEACH
From the Thong Sala Pier, take a shared taxi to Haad Rin. This should cost you 200 baht.

LONG TAIL BOAT TO HAAD TIEN
As you get off the taxi in Haad Rin, people with taxi boat signs will ask you where you are going and you tell them you are coming to The Sanctuary. The price for these long-tail boats is usually 300 baht per person for a shared boat, but they may ask for more if you are alone, depending on the time of day. Don’t pay more than 600 baht to take the boat alone. It is a 10 minute ride and will drop you in front of The Sanctuary.

Bali

UBUD & SIDEMAN

Bali means ‘Offering’, and it is easy to see why, as this incredible island overflows with ceremony; from its ornate temples to its sidewalks. Bali is predominantly Hindu and it preserves many of its ancient and traditional rituals and ways of life. There is no better place in Indonesia to stay for a time, settle in and get into the flow of Balinese life.

Ubud is a bustling, beautiful mini-city with incredible temples, ridiculously good restaurants and events such as ecstatic dance and live music.

Sideman is the location chosen for Embodied Silence, a 7 day silent retreat which explores expression through art-making and dance, combined with yoga and meditation. Sideman is a tiny town nestled in a beautiful valley in picturesque nature.

South America

PERU

Journey to mystical Peru, a land where the old ways are carved into the landscape and are embedded and alive in the heart of the local culture. Experience a synergistic blend of the shamanic customs of the Americas and the ancient art and science of Yoga.

Our voyage takes us approximately 15 km north (as far as the condor flies) from the historical Incan capital of Cusco, along the Vilcamayo River, revered as sacred by the early peoples for how it weaves its way through the rock, mirroring the correlation of Milky Way in old Grandfather Sky…

India

RISHIKESH, RAJASTHAN, KERALA

India is the motherland of Yoga, and we feel that it is so necessary for all Yoga Teachers to experience India at least once. The problem is that India is seen as being an unsafe place for women to travel, and most new Yoga Teachers are women.

India is a land of intense contrasts. It is an incredibly beautiful and friendly place, and at the same time, it is often heartbreaking and shocking. It is true that for many people, India can feel completely overwhelming. It takes cultural understanding in order to be safe as a woman in India, and we have spent many years living and travelling in this amazing continent and are so happy to share our insights to help you learn how to move through India with confidence, because it is truly an incredible land that is not to be missed.
