The Full Moon of Relationships

 In Astrology

Happy Purnima to all!

This full moon culminates on April 19th at 4:42 PM IST (4:12 AM PST) The moon is in the sign of Libra and the lunar house of Chitra.  Libra is a very relational sign, and Libra types love most things around interacting and connecting with others.  As the moon is a symbol of our families and communities, whenever the moon is full it is often a good time to connect with others.  But Libra gives us a particularly connective full moon energy, which makes it an ideal time to drop in and connect with those around us.  The strong exalted Sun in Aries opposing it gives a strength to the personal self and our ambitions, but the Libra moon reminds us that it is the support and connection to others that really allows us to shine.

The Sun moved into Aries on April 15th, and is celebrated as the New Year in many parts of India.  Indeed, when we talk about our birthdays being a solar return (the sun returning to its natal placement in our charts), the Sun returning to its place of exaltation in Aries also gives a sense of a new cycle starting.  A fiery planet like the sun in fiery Aries gives us good strength and motivation to get things done.  While Aries and Mars (the ruler of Aries) both have a tendency to start strong but sometimes not follow through, the detached rhythmic discipline of the Sun give us the stamina to see things through to fruition.  And the supportive and relational Moon opposing this reinforces this energy of sustaining power to our endeavors.

This Full moon is also celebrated as the birthday of Hanuman.  Hanuman is a symbol of our physical strength, our loyalty, and our dedication.  Between Hanuman’s Birthday and the New Year of Sun in Aries, this would be a good time to reflect upon and set an intention towards what we want to accomplish and dedicate our energy to in this upcoming cycle.

Venus is also exalted over in Pisces from April 15th to May 10th.  Venus in this position adds to the relational quality of this full moon cycle, as Venus is the planet of love and affection in a placement where it expresses its highest qualities.  Though Venus in Pisces is connected with creativity and all things related to art and beauty, Venus here also represents the highest octave of love, which is divine and unconditional love.  Venus ruled people will feel a boost in their creativity and overall happiness during this cycle.

Though essentially still a positive transit, the benefic nature of this transit is slightly weakened by two factors.  First, the ruler of Pisces, Jupiter, is retrograde and in a transitional gandanta point between Scorpio and Sagittarius.  This makes the element of space (akash) which Jupiter rules more unstable and less connective.  This retrograde cycle brings out the introspective and spiritual nature of Jupiter rather than its typical connective expansiveness.

Mercury also joins Venus in Pisces, which is its sign of debilitation.  While Mercury gets a boost from exalted Venus, Venus is pulled down a bit by Mercury’s presence. Mercury’s debilitation give an abstract and non-linear quality to the communicative nature of Mercury.  So while this next month enhances the affectionate and creative natures of our close relationships, do be sure to be clear and deliberate in communication where it matters.

As always, be in touch if I can help you in any way.

Love and Blessings,
